Vlissingen, February 22, 2025 - Crown Princess Amalia of the Netherlands presided over the naming ceremony of the Royal Navy's new generation warship "CSS Den Helder" in Vlissingen on Saturday. This is the first time that Princess Amalia has participated in a military event in an official capacity, marking an important step for her to officially assume the public duties of the country as Crown Princess.
"Den Helder" is built by Damen Shipyards of the Netherlands and is the most important logistics supply ship project of the Royal Netherlands Navy in recent years. The ship has the ability to provide fuel, ammunition and supplies for multiple combat ships, and is equipped with modern medical and communication facilities.
Although specific information about the source of the hull steel has not been made public, "Den Helder" is mainly responsible for the construction of the hull by Galati Shipyard in Romania, and the final assembly is carried out in Vlissingen, the Netherlands.
This naming ceremony not only reflects the traditional connection between the Dutch royal family and the navy, but also demonstrates the Netherlands' continued strength in the field of modern warship manufacturing.
